The Son of Perdition

Archived on December 19th, 2004

Joh 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

Perdition is: G684: apoleia , ap-o'-li-a From a presumed derivative of G622; ruin or loss (physical, spiritual or eternal)
This son is the son of loss, or ruin. The son of Destruction, it comes from a word G622; Apollumi, which means to destroy fully.

2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
This son of Destruction appears here again, as a part of the final event that will occur before Christ's return.
It goes into detail what he will be doing: acting as if he were God, doing wonders that lie about who he really is. He is that Wicked one(v. 8) who is revealed by the glory of Christ at His coming.
So who really is this Son that is destroyed, or lost? This son who destroys ? Some claim that it is Judas, since he betrayed Jesus, but they fail to realize that he repented of his deed before he was murdered. He is not destroyed or lost. There is only one Wicked, who will be opposing God, who has opposed God since the beginning. He comes to deceive the nations and fool Christians into thinking he is someone he is not, so that they will worship him instead of Christ. Yes, the Instead of Christ, the anti-christ. His name is Apollyon in Greek which is a derivative of our "apollumi", which ties in with "apoleia", the word for Perdition. The same comes from Abaddon in Hebrew. That is H11 to be exact. A perishing. In Revelation Chapter 9:11(Read with Revelation 20), we see that this is the name of an angel. The angel of Destruction. Angel(angelos) simply meaning messenger. This takes us to the Sons of God, and yes whether we like to admit it, satan was a son of God at one time, but he became the Son of Destruction! Once called "The king of Tyrus", or The king of the rock, but not Our Rock, he was his own king. Look at Ezekiel 28 beginning at verse 12:

Eze 28:12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
Eze 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
This Tyrus was full of wisdom and made a beautiful creature. Given every precious stone as his clothing, he was beautiful in every way, his voice was like silk. he was in the garden of God, Eden, so we know by this that God is not talking to the man-king of the place in Palestine, but of the son he created in the beginning.

Eze 28:14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
He was the cherubim that covers the mercy seat, a protector of the throne. As in today's kingly courts, if you approach the King without proper approval the guards are going to stop you and protect the King in every way. This was Tyrus', duty, but then...

Eze 28:15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
God found evil within. Truly; the first sinner.

Eze 28:16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst, of the stones of fire.
By the abundance of his blessings, he grew lofty. It filled him with pride, foolish pride, pride that made him think he was better than his creator. God said, "I will cast you out as a profane thing and destroy you." This word destroy is H6; 'a^bad, aw-bad':
A primitive root; properly to wander away, that is lose oneself; by implication to perish (causatively, destroy)
Are you surprised? I hope not. It is kin to the Greek we saw earlier, loss, ruin, destroyed. God wasn't talking to Judas here, it is definitely satan, as you will see very soon.
Let's continue:

Eze 28:17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Here it is, he thought he was better than anyone else, including God. God continues His condemnation of this wicked one. Kings will see him(Rev. 17 & 18).

Eze 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
God has declared that he will destroy this one with a fire from the midst of him. This will be accomplished in the time spoken of just before the judgement recorded in Revelation Chapter 20:10

Eze 28:19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
The people will be amazed AT HIS REVEALING, his destruction. Yes, the angel of Destruction being destroyed himself. To make sure you have this founded, who this son of destruction is, go to Isaiah Chapter 14:12

Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Yes, yet another name for satan. this is in his role as "a light" not The Light, but a fake. This is him being thrown down to the ground and what occurs there.

Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
This is the same thing he is doing in 2nd Thessalonians 2:4
Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
We already saw above in Revelations Chapter 20.

Isa 14:16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
Here is that coming to pass, he is thrown down in front of all. "is this the man?". Of course this is that same "man" in 2nd Thessalonians 2:3. Let me confirm what the Greek word for man is, so that there are no doubts:
G444: anthropos, anth'-ro-pos:(the countenance; from G3700); manfaced, that is, a human being
A word that means a being with the face of a man. Not necessarily a flesh man. Look up the meaning for the name Gabriel, a prominent angel in the NT, and you'll see what I mean.
So this man of sin, is...

The Wicked One(Matthew 13:19, Matthew 13:38, 1st John 2:13, 3:12, 5:18),
Apollyon and Abaddon(Revelation 9:11),
Lucifer,(Isaiah 14:12)
Destroyer,(Exodus 12:23, 1st Corinthains 10:10
Dragon,(Psalms 91:13, Isaiah 27:1, 51:9, Ezekiel 29:3, Revelation 12:7,9,13, & 20:2)
Serpent,(Genesis 3, 2nd Corinthians 11:3, Revelation 12:7,9 & 20:2
Devil(Matthew 4:1-11, Matthew 13:39, Matthew 25:41, Luke 4:1-13, Luke 8:12, John 8:44, John 13:2 Ephesians 6:11, Hebrews 2:14, James 4:7, 1st John 3:8)
and Satan(1st Chronicles 21:1, Job 1:1-12 & 2:1-1 ,Psalms 109:6, Zechariah 3:1,2, Matthew 4:10, Mark 4:15, Luke 10:18, John 13:27, Acts 26:18, Romans 16:20, 2nd Corinthians 11:14, 2nd Thessalonians 2:9, Revelation 2:9, 3:9, Revelation 12:9)

This one has many names, and there are many other scriptures, but he is the only one who has already been condemned to die, to be lost. The only one who is ruined. He is the ONLY one who can be, "The Son of Perdition".
Amen.
